Eden

Lyrics by Charles Lieurance

I saw Adan changing all the locks
from a house across Dodge Street
I didn't know how to tell him
that I hadn't seen the serpent there for weeks
as if he'd believe me
I wonder if he'll ever believe me
Through a long oval window I watched Adam mow the lawn
At first he kept it up like a religion
He clipped and pruned for hours
watered it for days
Then one day he just picked up the hose
and threw it in the weeds
he just plain surrendered
Now I want to come back home
but these are different days
I think I should experiment
I guess I'll walk away
but I want to come back home
but these are darker days
I guess I should just disappear
I think I'll shrug away
my old life
But I wanna come back home
I wanna walk back through the house to you
I wanna let my beach town fall
on the patio floor
and I wanna come back home
I wanna see you asleep
out back on the deck
your body covered up with leaves
Now I want to come back home
but these are different days
I think I should experiment
I think I'll slip away
and I want to come back home
but these are darker days
I think I should experiment
I guess I'll walk away
from you
